Abstract: The Beibu Gulf Economic Zone of Guangxi is the key area of the great development of Western China and a frontier area for opening up and cooperation with ASEAN countries. It is of great significance for our country to implement the overall regional development strategy and the mutual benefit and win-win strategy. This study takes 6 cities in the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone of Guangxi as the research object, and uses the global principal component analysis to construct a reasonable measurement system of high-quality economic development and measure the high-quality economic development level of each city from 2013 to 2022. The conclusions are as follows: from the perspective of comprehensive index scores and dynamic rankings, the high-quality economic development of all cities in the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone of Guangxi has been maintaining a steady growth but lacking in homogeneity; from the perspective of subdivision index scores, the advantages and deficiencies varied from city to city, so there is a need to optimize the allocation of resources, exert advantages, address inadequacies, and gain new momentum. Based on this, this paper puts forward some suggestions to promote the high-quality economic development of the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone of Guangxi from three aspects: strengthening the leading role, improving the regional cooperation mechanism and giving full play to the synergy of different policies.

Key words: Beibu-Gulf Economic Zone; high-quality development; coordinated development; opening and developing
