    Department of Frontier Economics

“Governing the country requires governing the borderlands.” Against the backdrop of deepening global economic integration, border regions have assumed distinctive yet formidable roles in development. Founded in 2024, the Department of Border Economics is dedicated to exploring the economic development of China’s and the world’s frontier areas, constructing a theoretical framework for border economics, and supplying intellectual support and talent for these regions’ advancement.

The Department currently comprises 12 faculty members—3 professors, 2 associate professors, and 7 assistant professors—who bring extensive teaching experience and deep scholarly expertise in border economics, world economics, agricultural economics, environmental economics, and related fields. As a constituent unit of the China Institute of Border Economics, the faculty are regular participants in leading domestic and international academic conferences and actively engage in national and local economic-policy consultations, contributing their insights to the stability and development of border regions.

The department offers courses that include, but are not limited to:

    • Introduction to Border Economics (undergraduate and master’s)

    • International Economics and Trade (undergraduate)

    • Theory and Practice of Border Economics (master’s and doctoral)

    • Special Topics in Border Economics (master’s)

Within the School’s first-level discipline of Applied Economics, we admit academic master’s and doctoral students specializing in border economics. Through an integrated curriculum spanning the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, we cultivate students’ professional economic literacy, strengthen their capacity for innovation and sense of social responsibility, and equip them to become interdisciplinary talents who grasp both international norms and frontier theories, practices, and policies of border regions.

Moreover, the department has forged extensive collaborative ties with other universities, research institutes, and enterprises to carry out joint research and exchange initiatives, jointly advancing the study and development of border economies. Looking ahead, we will remain open and inclusive, keep pace with the times, continuously explore new research directions and teaching models, and strive to become a first-class national and internationally renowned center for border-economics research and talent cultivation.

We warmly welcome friends from all sectors to follow and support the growth and development of the Department of Border Economics!
